The Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King

 

Introduction

 

 

The mission of the Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King is to develop and form men and women, especially young adults, soundly in the Apostolic Faith, the Faith which was once for all time handed down to the saints.

The purpose of the Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King is to both promulgate and reinforce the practice of pious Christian life by its members in absolute obedience and loyalty to Jesus Christ, the Sovereign King of the universe, of Heaven and earth, and all that is within them.

The Order exists to sustain, perpetuate, and assist the religious, spiritual, philanthropic, and social works and rights of the Orthodox Catholic Churches throughout the world, which profess and live out the unadulterated and perennial Christian Faith given, guarded, and transmitted by the Apostles and their successors in the Apostolic College to the present day.

The Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King seeks to...

  • Protect, defend, and serve the honor of the Holy Trinity, of Christ and His Holy Church, of the Holy Name of Jesus and the Most Holy Theotokos, the Martyrs and Saints, and of all that is holy, good, and noble that has its origins in  God.
  • Develop, form, and perfect its members, especially young adults, in religious, spiritual, moral, and ethical behavior and living.
  • Guard and protect the holy and sacred temples, churches, shrines, and other holy sites of both the Orthodox Catholic and Catholic Churches against acts of desecration, violence, terrorism, vandalism, and all other acts of sacrilege committed by enemies of the Church both within and without.
  • Serve as Guards of Honor at the celebration of Divine Liturgy/Mass, liturgical and religious services, processions, and all other religious and liturgical services and official Church functions, events, and activities as requested by individual parishes or diocesan/eparchial authorities.
  • Provide physical security to parishes at Divine Liturgy/Mass, other liturgical and religious services and celebrations, for parish festivals, and all other parish and Church related events and activities as requested by individual parishes or the appropriate diocesan authority (Bishop).

Membership in the Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King is by invitation only or by the referral of one's pastor. In the case of clergy (priests, deacons, and subdeacons) and seminarians, recommendations and referrals must be made by the candidate's bishop.

Prospective members of the Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King must be members in good standing of both their parish and their diocese/eparchy. Such standing must be evidenced by Commendatory Letters issued by one's pastor and bishop as appropriate.

To be considered in good standing with one's parish and diocese/eparchy, the Order requires that prospective candidates be active participating members of their parish and diocese/eparchy by...

  • Contributing regularly of their time, talent, and treasure;
  • Attend worship services faithfully on the Lord's Day, on all Holy Days of Obligation, and on all major Feast Days of the Lord and the Most Holy Theotokos;
  • Receive the Holy Mysteries of the Eucharist and Confession regularly (in the case of Confession, at least once a month);
  • Provide regular financial support to their priest and their parish (as their own financial conditions permit);
  • Fulfill their financial obligations to their diocese/eparchy (as their own financial circumstances permit;
  • Not be living in illicit, immoral, or in otherwise scandalous relationships.

In conclusion, the mission and purpose of the Sovereign Military Order of Christ the King is the salvation of souls, the care and defense of the Holy and Great Church of Christ, the spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the proclamation of the Kingdom of God and the Kingship of Jesus Christ, the defense of the Holy and Sovereign Commonwealth of Christ on Earth, and the making of saints to the glory of God.

The Archdiocese is led by His Eminence, Stephen, Archbishop of Siracusa and Ortigia, and of All Sicily, Southern Italy, and Magna Graecia, Metropolitan of the Americas and Canada of the Italo-Greeks, Bishop of Utica, and Primate of the Italo-Greek Byzantine Orthodox Catholic Church.
